Our nationwide coverage means that we operate in every community in the UK. Being a good neighbour to each of these communities is important to us and we are aware of many of our local impacts. They are often associated with our transport fleet or properties.

We have set internal standards and developed a number of initiatives to reduce our environmental impacts, some of which are listed below:

  • Fleet Impacts. We have deployed a number of alternative fuel vehicles, in areas where local air quality is an issue. As part of their training programme, our drivers learn about the environmental impacts of poor driving, wasted resources and the disposal problems caused by vehicles and their components.
  • Properties. We seek to ensure that our hubs and other facilities are sited so as to reduce impacts on surrounding road networks and residential areas. At the same time we attempt to minimise the travel impacts on our customers and employees and therefore the environment.
  • Biodiversity. We carry out environmental impacts assessments for any new buildings or refurbishments, in which we consider biodiversity. We're also working with the Woodland Trust, to support biodiversity.
