| The basis of our support is through the Stepping Stone Fund set up in 2001. For example, we are promoting writing skills for people over the age of 16 and in the first three years of the Fund we have supported over 145 community projects aiming to reach some of the estimated seven million adults in the UK who have difficulty with writing or want to improve their skills.
The judges of the 2003 Fund were impressed with a variety of innovative and interesting projects planned by local groups to enhance and improve adult literacy skills. From basic writing workshops to creative writing courses to the provision of learning resources and help from professional writers, the 45 projects benefiting this year will have 2,000 direct beneficiaries and many thousands more will benefit indirectly.
