| We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the benefits of the written word. Literacy is taken for granted in our modern society, but the reality for millions in the UK is quite different. Their daily struggle with the written word can turn the simplest tasks into major challenges.
Royal Mail is committed to helping everyone develop their written communications skills to create a richer society that enables individuals to communicate, learn and develop their full potential.
For many years we have worked with schools. Our activities range from employee volunteering - both in the classroom and as school governors - to working with teachers to produce classroom resources for primary and secondary schools.
We are also active in the wider community, supporting groups which work to develop adult writing skills. Our Stepping Stone Fund ensures that small community projects, which often miss out, receive the help they need to continue their work. We awarded grants to 45 projects during 2003. |
